Benefits of Massage Therapy

We all know that there is no better feeling than a massage, and there are many health and

mental benefits to having a massage. Studies recently found that a simple 10 minute massage

after a tough workout can help relax and repair muscles. We’ve known for a long time that

massage can make those aches and pains feel so much better. However, the more we look into

what it can do the more interesting finds we uncover.

Anxiety and Depression:

For the same reasons that a massage is relaxing, it can also help soothe depression and

anxiety. It reduces levels of a stress hormone called cortisol. It lifts spirits and often lowers your

blood pressure, and can also boost the neurotransmitters in serotonin and dopamine, which are

involved in depression.

Easing Pain:

So many of us experience debilitating back pain, and in a recent piece by Time.com they stated

that a massage can help. In a 2011 study a massage helped people in pain feel and function

better much better than people who hadn’t received any massage treatment. In fact, they felt so

strongly about it that they stated it’s as effective a treatment as medications, acupuncture,

exercise and yoga says Dan Cherkin, Ph. D., lead author of the study, said in a press release.

Massage has also been linked to decreased stiffness and pain, as well as better range of motion

for people living with osteoarthritis.

Sleep Troubles:

Our personal favorite; have you ever fallen asleep on the massage table? If you answered yes,

then we don’t have to convince you that a massage can help promote a healthy sleep. Studies

have examined this link and say it’s because of a massages effect on delta waves, the kind of

brain waves that are connected to deep sleep.

Boost your Immunity:

Many studies, although small have linked massage to a better functioning immune system. A

study in 2010 researchers found massage increased a person disease fighting white blood cells.

The stress reducing powers of massage can also keep you healthy, both mentally and

physically.

Menstrual:

Ladies, this one is for you. It’s been shown that a little massage can get rid of the pesky bloating

and cramps and irritability to the curb.

Headaches:

Just as back pain and muscle soreness, headaches can also be helped with massage. Get a

regular massage can reduce the number of migraines as well as limit how painful they feel. A

study in 2009 showed that a 30minute

massage decreased pain for people suffering with

tension headaches and even curbed some of the stress and anger associated with that

pounding head.

Increase blood flow:

massage can increase blood flow and in turn help with those troubled areas such as plumping

up your slack skin, encouraging lymphatic drainage which is moving the toxins out and away

from cells so that more nutrients can get in there. and adds vibrancy to dull complexion and

lackluster hair.

There are so many benefits to massage for healthy body, mind and spirit. It’s time you treated

yourself to feeling good and improving your mental and physical health. We are always here to

help you decide what treatment is best for your needs and can alter a massage to suit your

aches and pains.
