A professional facial is way more than just relaxation and luxury, it’s hygiene and maintenance for the skin. Facials offer you the opportunity to work with a skincare specialist, typically at a day spa, who will analyze your skin and guide you to improving your complexion. A basic facial provides a deep cleansing, deeper than the cleansing you will get at home. Exfoliation is also included in each facial, which helps to unclog your pores followed by extractions (if necessary) to help rid skin of any blemishes. Your skin professional will help soften the skin with steam, moist towels, enzymes or other exfoliants depending on your skin’s needs. This skincare specialist- referred to as an esthetician, may choose a specific masque to detoxify, calm, energize, tone, lift or hydrate your skin.

Facials are generally scheduled for one hour and help increase circulation & stimulate the skin. Estheticians can help slow down premature aging by customizing your facial and giving your product recommendations for your home skincare routine. There are many different types of facials and facial treatments that are preventative to help you beat wrinkles before they occur. Specific types of facials or treatments can also have vast improvements on certain ailments of the skin.

Sagging skin:

Most women will tell you they have sagging skin, but when you’re ready to do something about it (not a face lift) there is a facial treatment that can help; MicrocurrentMicrocurrent is naturally generated in the body to produce the energy required for muscle movement and nerve impulses. When an esthetician applies this current to the facial muscles it not only causes muscle re-education but also encourages the skin repair process. Basically it’s like taking the muscles in your face to the gym while you lie down and relax for 1 hour.

Wrinkles:

As we get older our skin produces less and less collagen and elastin cells, this coupled with damage from the sun is to blame for the wrinkles as we age. A well know treatment for wrinkles on the face is microdermabrasion. This facial treatment involves the use of aluminum oxides crystals and suction at the same time. The abrasion of the crystals helps to break down the wrinkles from the surface, and the suction causes increased circulation, and stimulates elastin and collage cells to reproduce in the skin below. How to make these results even better you ask? Infuse some pure oxygen and hyaluronic acid to then fill in those wrinkles, plump and hydrate the skin instantly. This is a combination treatment referred to as Oxydermabrasion.

Sun Damage:

The sun can damage the skin in many ways, But most commonly with dark spots. The technical term for this is Hyperpigmentation – areas of the skin that are darker then the natural skin tone. This damage leaves a concentration of melanin cells that are usually in multiple layers of the skin and take time or require a deep penetration process to achieve results.  To even out your skin tone, it is advised by medical professions to disperse them or “bleach” them. The best facial treatment for hyperpigmentation caused by sun damage is chemical peels. May different formulas or blends of peels can be effective, so speaking with a licensed esthetician is always advised.

Acne:

Different levels of acne require different treatments. Mild to moderate acne usually just needs professional acne facial.  An acne facial generally utilizes salicylic acid to help dry up oil production from the sebaceous glands, and exfoliation to help with excessive cell growth and skin texture. This exfoliation can also help with comedones also known as blackheads. Education and guidance on a basic home routine from an esthetician might also be helpful. More aggressive to severe acne would require a series of chemical peels and anti-inflammatory treatments.

Large Pores:

These enlarged pores can be hereditary, or more commonly caused by chronic congestion in the skin. If congestion was left in the skin at a young age, this could have a scarring affect to the inside walls of the individual pores. On a larger scale, this deep scarring is called pitting, and can be one of the hardest ailments to treat in the skin. Scar tissue is denser than normal skin; therefore, it requires more aggressiveness to break down. Microdermabrasion is one of the best treatments a day spa can offer for this condition. It will take a series of these Microdermabrasion treatments (sometimes as many has 10, 3 to 4 weeks apart) to break down the enlarged pores.

Dry Skin:

There is no single cause for dry skin. Dry skin can be caused by both internal and external factors. Age, genetics, medications, environment, harsh soaps, etc… But one of the best treatments for dry skin is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is an ingredient found naturally in the skin that provides an extra hydration layer to seal in moisture and create an invisible barrier against hydration loss.  An oxygen facial uses this technology coupled with a stream of pure oxygen, that when infused back into the skin can instantly smooth fine lines, increase the skin’s volume and deeply hydrate the skin. Instant gratification

Rough Skin Texture:

Everyone wishes they could have the feel and look of baby soft smooth skin again. And for most of us that is just not the case. As our top layers of skin naturally die, the protein in our skin’s cells will build up on the surface if it is not sloughed off or exfoliated away; therefore, leaving a rough and unpleasant texture to the skin. Naturally derived fruit enzymes, such as pineapple, papaya and mango paired with vitamin C have shown amazing results with little to no irritation. These powerful enzymes created by Image Skincare, target the protein buildup and dissolve it with little to no damage to existing live cells causing minimal downtime after this treatment. This Four Layer Facelift is by far the best at treating skin texture.

Rosacea:

Rosacea is a disease that causes redness on your nose, cheeks, chin, and forehead. Some people even get little bumps and pimples on the red parts of their faces. Experts have debated the causes for years with many different theories. Whatever the cause, the result is red, irritated and usually dry skin that can be very sensitive and even soar at times due to inflammation. Having a facial with is delicate condition can often be unpleasant; unless, it is an organic facial. Organic facials use only certified organic ingredients with highly potent antioxidants ideal for reducing inflammation in the skin. These treatments do not use chemicals, acids or parabens. Instead they calm and hydrate, helping the appearance of rosacea and with regular treatments and advised homecare, can lessen the symptoms of this disease.

A professional facial is recommended every 4-6 weeks, though they can be given on a bi weekly basis –especially if you are experiencing unusual time of stress or menopause. As an added bonus, most people find receiving a professional facial to be exceptionally relaxing. To prolong the results of your facial, it is recommended that you are diligent with your homecare program, like cleansing, exfoliating, moisturizing and protecting. Never skip on the sun protection!
